Animals Taking Over!

Original watercolor painting on 300lb paper , 11.75" x 11.25"

Penguins in a museum looking at the famous "Magdeburg Unicorn" fossil - a fossil so poorly reconstructed that it became famous. Inspired by real instances of penguins in museums during the pandemic.

The memories of the quarantine and animals inhabiting "human" spaces stay with me. During the spring of 2020, I walked my dog for miles in the quiet streets of the edge of Boston. Throughout the rest of the world, as we retreated, animals began to take back some of our “human” spaces. In addition, some people brought animals to explore places that were off limits to us. This “anthropause” as the Quarantine is also called, inspired me to paint the animals. They took over neighborhoods, streets, and our museums. Penguins are welcome to “my” spaces any time.
